To my blog readers, I am posting this blog to inform you that Skybus has ceased operations as of April 5, 2008. On their website they give reasons why their board directors came to a decision as this one. The company had to struggle with rising jet fuel costs and the condition that our economy is in right now makes it not the best time for a new air carrier. There is more information on the website for those of you who want to know more.
Usually when I search flights I go back and forth between websites like CHEAPTICKETS.COM and TRAVELOCITY.COM but a couple of days ago I was surfing the net and came across this website that will let you search flights for both of those sites and two others. Just go to FARECAST.COM and see for yourself. It even tells you if the price of your ticket will go down or up in a certain amount of time. I still have to experiment with it but it is a really handy site for the travelers out there.
I was just wondering has anyone besides myself been following the news lately about Southwest Airlines and the all the missed safety inspections they have got away with. It makes me wonder what else goes on. But finally that one guy they call the whistle blower came forward. I don't know the whole story but if you interested you should check this video out.
This past spring break I was searching for flights home and didn't think I was going to be able to home because of the prices. At the time I was searching flights and the tickets for a round trip to Florida from Indiana were running almost $600 which was more than I had and was willing to spend just to go home for week. But I was saved because my roommate told me about another type of air carrier called Skybus that has really cheap tickets but the only catch was it only flies to select few cities. I ended up up paying almost $300 for a round trip ticket instead of $600 but I had to ride home with my roommate because he stayed close to Columbus, Ohio which is one of the cities Skybus is located and I flew into St. Augustine, Florida which is an hour away from where I live in Florida. If your flying home for the summer you should really check this website out. SKYBUS.
Well the end of the year is just a few weeks away and and right now I'm planning my means of travel back to the sunshine state for the summer. I usually check websites like Cheaptickets.com and Travelocity.com first or I'll just Google more websites. I try to find the cheapest flight possible to save my parents money. Last spring break and summer I caught a ride with one of my teammates and I paid him $50 for gas on the way there and $50 on the way back. He stays farther down south than I do, so it was a easy trip. It took about 15 hours before he dropped me off in Lake City, Florida which is about an hour from Jacksonville and he still had another 3 hours to drive on his way to Naples, Florida. I drove my own car back over the summer and I probably spent just as much money as it would be if I had to fly back to Indiana. I also have to move all my belongings out of the dorms and find somewhere to store them while I'm gone which is another hassle. I have to hurry up and purchase a flight because the longer I wait, the more money the flight will be. I wish I went to a college closer to home.
I'm from Jacksonville, Florida and I attend college at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana on a football scholarship. People always ask me why did I come from the sunshine state to nothing but cold weather and snow. My main reason was football and going to a good school to get an education and Ball State was the only Division I-A team that offered me a scholarship. When I first got to here the hardest obstacle I had to overcome was homesickness and now that I have been here for almost two years I still find myself trying to cope. I could just take the easy way out and quit or transfer so i can be closer to home but I have to grow up some day and be used to living away from home so i want to finish what I started and graduate. For anyone else that is dealing with a similar situation like mines and is coping with homesickness, I suggest you check out this site- HOMESICKNESS
